![]() Ironically, I actually feel like the coins permanently saving when you collect them was a bit of a negative for me. My favorite songs were probably the World 4 Ghost House's one and the one for the World 2 Sky level with its cool drum beat as it went on, I'm glad it got used for a main level as well in World 4. ![]() I think it all being so good ironically meant none of the songs quite stood out to me individually, but I liked the cowboy energy of the castle theme. The bosses were all quite good and decently challenging without being truly obnoxious. My favorite levels were the World 2 Secret level, the World 4 Ghost House, and the World 2 Sky level. It's hard for me to synthesize my thoughts well so I'll instead do bullet points. The 100% clear bonus is super funny and I think the Sky levels are some of the greatest in the entire game, making them a good reward for doing everything else. Obviously, the art and music is one of the main goals, but I also think that the stage design and use of ASM is extremely pleasing. As I played more of it though it became apparent that it really is very good. ![]() I went in not sure whether I would like this hack - I thought that maybe it was going to be all about the aesthetics and relatively weak in other areas. The vibes were interesting overall, but dang do I wish it was a bit more balanced and felt like more thought went into certain areas at times. The whole experience ended up souring a bit for me because of that, especially given that power-ups are so limited in the hack. And while I get what the author is going for there it makes dealing with certain things quite difficult, especially the insane plant temple boss who starts throwing projectiles willy nilly in the second half of their life bar. the game is kind of allergic to midpoints. The enemies all being nipperified was legit amusing and its a pretty neat response to design tendencies of the time. The writing is very earnest and while super silly is kind of enjoyable, I like the idea of trying to save the world from a cataclysmic nipper invasion. It was super nostalgic to hear that title theme and the work that was put into it is cool. For its time I think it's pretty interesting.
